We won 6 of our first 9 games, and then just another 2 all season. To start off with we were just unlucky or wasteful in not winning more games, but things really started to go wrong in January. We started playing badly, had to lose Marlon King and Paul McShane, and our £5million signing Jimmy Bullard got injured on his debut. We desperately needed someone to create chances and without Bullard we had no-one.
If before the season started you offered us 17th place we'd have gladly taken it. It's just disappointing to finish the season playing so poorly.
Who was Hull City's player of the year?
Michael Turner, for a second successive season. The ever-present centre back was so dependable. We hope he'll be the rock of our team for many years to come.
Who were the best players you saw play against Hull City?
We lost at home to Bolton and drew at the Reebok Stadium. We'd have won both games were it not for Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Stephen Ireland scored three goals against us and ran both games. A proper box-to-box midfielder who can defend and attack and was at the heart of everything.
I was also highly impressed by Frank Lampard at the KC Stadium. His movement was excellent to constantly make space for himself, and he scored a good goal too.
Which, if any, Stoke players impressed you this season?
Lawrence, Etherington and Fuller were the more eye-catching of your sloggers.
What are your thoughts on Stoke City?
You've got a team where the players know what they have to do, stick
to it and work hard. With that ethic and team spirit they'll pick up
points despite being limited as footballers. We saw the same thing
with Hull City at the start of the season. If and when it goes though,
as it did for us a few months ago, you'll be really up against it as you can't match the opposition's strengths. The tricky thing for Tony Pulis is that he'll want to bring in better players this summer but anything that doesn't fit with what kept you up could be for the worse.
Where do you need to strengthen this summer?
The standard of goalkeepers in the Premier League is better than what we have.
Our defence isn't too bad but we need a bit more cover - Steven Mouyokolo from Boulogne and possibly McShane back from Sunderland.
We're weak in central midfield and lack cover when we have injuries. Sean Davis or Kevin Nolan would be a fantastic and hopefully realistic signing.
Our forwards would do better if we can improve the service but we're certain to invest in one or two. Fraizer Campbell would make a welcome return from Manchester United, but otherwise the club are probably looking overseas.
Who'll be on their way out?
If Bryan Hughes, Dean Windass, Ryan France, Peter Halmosi and Caleb Folan couldn't get into this team they might as well move on now. There may be some conflict in the camp; Geovanni and/or Daniel Cousin could be sold, despite their talents. Turner will be held on to at almost any cost.
Hull City's best 11 of the season?
