Stoke Ramblers were denied some silverware as the Oatcake Occasionals took home the Winger Trophy after a comfortable 5-2 victory at Bradeley Football Development Centre.
The game was held in honour of Stoke fan and author Stephen Foster who was found dead in June this year and saw the OO's return after a three year absence.
The OO's with a blend of youth and experience started the better and soon found themselves two goals to the good when, firstly, an OO's striker was played in on goal and he steadied himself before lobbing the ball over Ramblers keeper Chris Wollington and into the net with the second goal being an unfortunate OG for Ben Steadman when a corner deflected onto the knee of the winger and into the net.
The Ramblers fought there way back into the game and levelled the scores before the break thanks to goals from Lee Jaquiss and Ben Dyer as Jaquiss produced yet another fine finish and Dyer, on debut, tapped in at the far post.
The second half started brightly for both sides but the experienced centre back duo of Simon Myatt, loaned out for the day to the opposition, and Mark Finney made sure it was the Ramblers who had most trouble to deal with as a makeshift backline, missing first choice centre halves Myatt and Craig Taylor, who moved into the midfield for the second half, struggled to contain the two teenage strikers up front for the OO's.
The game was soon well in the visitors favour as three quickfire goals opened up a commanding lead with the home defence failing to deal with balls down the middle and being forced to face their own goal with young strikers snapping at their heels.
The Ramblers got themselves more on the ball as the game came to a close but were still unable to find a way through the well drilled defensive unit the OO's had on show, allowing the OO's to easily see out the game and pick up the trophy.
