The signing of the experienced Premier League defender would strenghten an area of the side where the Potters have little cover beyond Leon Cort and Ryan Shawcross, and it would be hope that any deal would be concluded in time for him to appear at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday against his former employers Bolton Wanderers.
Stoke also have Charlton midfielder Amdy Faye on trial with a view to a permanent transfer. Stoke are currently in need of several new faces ahead of the end of the transfer window, and a few of these arriving prior to Saturday would not go amiss.
