Alan Hudson goes back furthest in time with his book "The Waddington Years". Having already covered the story of his life in an earlier book "The Working Man's Ballet", Hudson now takes a look at his great friend and legendary Potters manager Tony Waddington. The time covered is one of the most famous in the club's history as Stoke came close to a League title and put together one of their most memorable sides. For those who witnessed this period the book will bring back many memories of their heroes, packed crowds at the Vic and some glorious times for the club. The close and strong relationship between author and subject are immediately obvious in this book as one of Stoke's greatest players talks lovingly about their greatest manager. A passionate and interesting look at the glory years.
Mickey Thomas' autobiography "Kick-Ups, Hiccups, Lock-Ups" is a rollercoaster ride through the interesting life of Stoke's former Welsh winger. A man with an obvious soft spot for the club, Thomas' 2 spells at the club endeared him to all those who saw him wearing the red and white stripes. The book tells of a colourful career from Wrexham, through Man Utd and Chelsea, back to Wrexham and then infamously on to prison. Mickey is a real lovable rogue and this book brings out the best, and worst, of his life, in a story that will at times leave you open mouthed, but also bring a smile to your face. Mickey will be talking to Stoke City MAD later this week about both the book and his thoughts on Stoke so keep a look out for that.
