Uruguayan midfielder Diego Arismendi has become the third City player to join Barnsley on loan in the last twelve months, as he looks to gather more experience in the English game.
Arismendi, 22, joined the Potters from Uruguayan side Nacional last summer, for £2.5m, but failed to settle and made only a couple of first team appearances, both in the Carling Cup, and failed to make the matchday eighteen for a league game. 'The Destroyer', as he is known in his homeland, had a loan spell at League One Brighton late on in the season, under the wing of fellow Uruguayan Gus Poyet and, although he showed glimpses of his undoubted talent, his was laregly disappointing, getting sent off once and looking disinterested in games but Poyet had seen enough to try and bring the defensive midfielder, who has two caps, back to the South coast. City were keen for him to play at a higher level though and in Barnsley have found an npower Championship club who want to take the youngster on a season long loan, and a club the Potters have good relations with after the lengthy loans of Ryan Shotton and Carl Dickinson last season.
