John told the sentinel: "The feeling I got when it happened was that it wasn't just another pull. It was a piercing pain.
"I thought 'what's this?' And thought it might be quite serious. But I never thought I would be out for 10 months.
"People kept saying they could get me right, but it didn't work. It was a bad tear of the groin and it needed to heal properly and I had to have an operation.
"I will take each day as it comes, and if the manager wants to use me as a substitute it is just great to be involved. I think it will be six weeks before I am ready for a start."
He added: "I cannot see any reason why we cannot make the play-offs. The manager has got money now and he is looking for the right players. A few would be a boost to the squad and that can only help our chances."
