Jones signs on 1 month loan

Kenwyne had a successful loan period at Wednesday, scoring 7 in 7. So impressed by his ability they submitted 2 bids for him that Southampton rejected.

Andy Parsons from Sheffield Wednesday MAD said: "Kenwyne was a decent player. No where near Premiership standard but he should be ok in the First Division. He looked lazy sometimes but in the second half he really kicked in.

"He has good skills and is very powerful. He wins all sorts in the air. But defenders don't know where to follow him as the runs he makes are very unstriker like!

"He used to be a defender when Sturrock brought him over to the Saints but transformed into somewhat of a utility man. I believe we were about to bid £100000 for him but I don't think we did.

"When I spoke to him a bit back he really wanted to do well at Saints. He did have a massive influence in our team. He scored in 6 consecutive games (7 goals) equilling the club record - and the first six of them we won".

From Southampton, we spoke to the editor of SaintsForever.com (Southampton MAD) Keith Legg.

He said: "Kenwyne is a strange player. I saw him play half a dozen times for our reserves at the start of the season and playing in midfield he looked very ordinary and often the game would pass him by.

"He looked a great athlete, but not a footballer. He went to Wednesday on loan, got played up front and couldn’t stop scoring goals, much to my astonishment. He scored a couple for our reserves on our return and looked pretty good against Pompey in our first team when he came on as sub.

"He played from the start away at Birmingham on the wide right and was hopeless. He’s still only 20 and got a lot to learn, but the jury is still out whether his goals for Sheff Wed were just a freak run or he really has the talent to score goals consistently".
