The Potters long search for an assistant manager appears to be coming to an end, with Brian Kidd the man set for the role.
Kidd, 60, was at the training ground yesterday and went for talks with Tony Pulis after the session ended. An appointment could be made before the end of the week meaning Kidd could potentially be in the dugout for Saturday's season opener against Burnley.
If they secure the services of Kidd, a lethal striker capped twice by England during his playing career, it would be a major coup as the man is mosts famously known as being Alex Ferguson's right hand man during the years when the Old Trafford club were transformed from also rans to title winners with a large group of players having come through the youth system, a system that Kidd was head of during players such as Beckham, Giggs, Gary Neville, Butt and Sharpe's final years before turning professional.
After huge success at Old Trafford he then left to try his hand at management but had an unsuccessful spell at Blackburn before coaching role's at Leeds, Sheffield United and finally Portsmouth, the club he left last week because the travelling was too much from his Manchester home.
With Gerry Francis apparently also close to sealing a deal for the upcoming season, Pulis' backroom staff appears to be coming together nicely with the season fast approaching.
