Fans have been calling for the corners to be filled in pretty much since the stadium was constructed. The holes in the corners certainly detract from the atmosphere of the place, and can turn the Brit into an arctic wind tunnel at times. Pride Park at Derby is identical to the Brit save for the corners being filled in, and anyone who has been to Derby will probably agree that the ground is better for it.
However, Stoke have to justify the expense of filling the corners in and so far there has been no justification as the Stadium has been far from full. Now the club are in the Premier League there is the potential for full houses every week to make the corners a more viable proposition.
Chief Executive Tony Scholes confirmed that the club had looked at the possibility of summer construction work but had decided not too on this occasion. He did give hope to those who want the corners filled in by saying that there was a possibility of this happening if sell outs became a regular feature over the next season.
