Stoke have completed the signing of England international Jonathon Woodgate on a 12 month pay-as-you-play deal.
The 31-year-old will earn an additional 12 months on hs deal should he prove his questionable fitness over the coming season.
Woodgate, who has 8 England caps, has had spells at Leeds United, Newcastle United, Real Madrid and Middlesbrough before a £7m move to Tottenham in 2008.
He was released by Spurs last week after playing just four games in the last 2 seasons, his first performance of last season being in the 1-0 victory against AC Milan in the San Siro where he came on as an early substitute to put in an Man of the Match performance.
Regarded by many as technically the best English centre back of his generation his career has been hampered by injuries throughout his time in football.
He will now fight it out club captain Ryan Shawcross and former Middlesbrough teammate Robert Huth for a place at the heart of the Potters defence.
