Etherington has two years still to run on his deal at the Britannia Stadium, but the Potters are keen to secure the winger's long-term future.
Tony Pulis expressed his wish last month for the board to open discussions and Etherington is set to meet with Stoke chairman Peter Coates later in April.
"Talks are arranged with Matthew and his representative in 10 days," Coates told The Sentinel.
"We are keen to keep Matthew and hopefully those talks will come to a good conclusion."
Etherington has established himself as a key performer for Stoke, scoring six goals in 47 appearances since his arrival from West Ham United in January 2009.
He has been in fine form this season and his displays on the left of the Potters' midfield had sparked talk of a call-up to England's World Cup squad.
