Albion go into the match buoyed by their dramatic late leveller against local rivals Wolves last time out in what was Roy Hodgson's first game at the helm, and the former Liverpool and Fulham boss has called on his team to maintain that level of commitment in the remaining 11 games of the season as they look to drag themselves clear of the lower reaches of the table.

Defensive fragility has been the Baggies' Achilles' heel all season, and it is safe to assume set-piece plays have dominated Stoke's preparations this week.

The Potters suffered a fourth defeat in five outings at Arsenal in midweek, and they will be relieved to return to the familiar surroundings of the Britannia. But with Premier League safety all but assured, Tony Pulis has set his side the challenge of a first top-10 finish since 1975.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• The Potters have won seven of the last eight league meetings between the two clubs, including a Premier League double during 2008/09, the only season both clubs have been in the top flight since 1984/85.

• West Brom's sole victory over the Potters this millennium was a 1-0 win at the Hawthorns in September 2003. Scott Dobie was the man on target.

• Kenwyne Jones has netted only once in his last 15 appearances for the Potters.

• Robert Huth is on the brink of his 150th career Premier League appearance.

• Andy Wilkinson could make his 100th league appearance for the Potters.

West Brom

• The Baggies have the worst defensive record in the top flight, having let in 52 goals. They have gone a club record 25 Premier League games without a clean sheet.

• Their only clean sheet this season came in the second game of the campaign, a 1-0 home win over Sunderland.

• They went fourth after beating Fulham on 23 October but have since taken only 13 points from 18 matches (W3, D4, L11).
