A club statement read: "The Plymouth Argyle board of directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Tony Pulis as the club's new manager.
"Tony is an excellent, proven manager with a wealth of experience who the board feels has precisely the right qualities to ensure the club continues the fine progress it has made in recent seasons."
As would be expected, Dave Kemp is his number two, and no doubt the partnership will be just as successful at Plymouth as they proved to be at Stoke, including survival from relegation and building a squad good enough to just miss out on the championship playoffs in his third season in charge before getting sacked in the summer of 2005.
