Assistant manager Jan de Koning said: "We want him to get back to full fitness before he plays, so it is good he is staying here so he can do that.
"If he went to Africa then we would have no control over what happens with him out there, and whether he would train or play.
"He should hopefully be back in training on Monday and get his match fitness back ahead of the game at Derby."
He said: "I think it has been disastrous for him. He came to a new club late and got injured, and it has been tough for everyone.
"He can't speak English, so it will take time for him to settle and get to know the players, but once he starts to train and play, it will get easier."
