Tony Pulis said: "Steve Simonsen had one of those days. He was outstanding, but he's been outstanding since he joined us."
But Simonsen refused to take all the credit.
He said: "Dave (Kemp) told me before the game that if they got a penalty then Gary would put it to my right and so I went that way and fortunately enough I saved it.
"Once I'd gone the right way it was fairly comfortable to make the save and fortunately Clint Hill managed to clear the ball to stop them from scoring.
"I wouldn't say that penalty kicks were a strong point of mine because I think that it the first one I've saved in first-team football and hopefully now I can save plenty more."
