In February Stoke welcomed Blackburn Rovers to the Britannia Stadium, the game ended 3-0 but that was insignificant to a lot of people, especially Rovers fans there that day, as a young man lost his life.
Whatever the circumstances were, reports have differed since the event, the fact remains a man who had gone to watch a game of football never returned home and that is something that we can all reflect on and pray it never directly affects us.
He left behind a wife and children, children who will now grow up never knowing their father, all due to events that happened at a football match.
Today the people who knew John will no doubt be thinking strongly about him, but all of us can pay respect to a fellow football fan at todays game and also think about how it could so easily be someone close to ourselves who's goes to game and tragically never returns.
