"I know the club personally very well due to my family connections and through the other Icelandic players who have played for the club, so I knew everything I needed to know about the club.
"It's also a new challenge for me and one that I'm looking forward to."
He added: "When Stoke first connected me the first thing I did was to ring my Dad up and talk to him about the club.
"He thought this would be a good move for me and I think he knows that I can do well for this club.
"I've trained with the boys today for the first time and I hope I can make a good impression next week if I'm involved at Wigan."
