I think most supporters would have preferred a big game for the opening day,
one that really said welcome to the Premier League, someone we hadn't played
in years. And yet it is Stoke away, a game we played not much over a year
ago. I suspect neither set of supporters would have chosen it as the opener.
Having suggested a big opener I think we would definitely have then wanted
some 'winnable' games to try and get some points on the board - it looks
somewhat daunting having Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in the
next four games with Everton squeezed in between them.
But we didn't get promoted to have easy games. We have gone up and are
relishing the challenge, and a challenge it will be, and we've waited years
to play these big clubs again.
Britannia Stadium or wherever in August, at the end of the day we'll be
watching Burnley playing Premier League football. It starts at Stoke, and
that's fine with me, I can't wait.
