After falling out of favour at Tottenham Hotspur Peter Crouch joined Stoke City at the start of the 2011-2012 Premier League season for a fee believed to be around ?10 million.
He managed 10 premier league goals in his first season with the pick of the bunch and probably the best goal he will ever score coming at the tail end of the season, against eventual champions Manchester City.
A long punt forward by goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was won in the air by crouch and Jermaine Pennant who won the second header, nodded back in to Crouch?s path. Crouch took one touch to tee it up and struck a volley from the right hand corner of the penalty area. The ball lofted over Joe Hart in the Manchester City goal and into the far corner with the ball not touching the ground until the ball was in the back of the net. A typical Stoke goal some might say, but executed with outstanding technique and skill by the tall striker. Seen by many as a certainty for goal of the season. Crouch narrowly missed out to a phenomenal Pappis Cisse effort for Newcastle United against Chelsea, scored just a few weeks after.
