Stoke City manager Tony Pulis says he is not interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland in the January transfer window. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the Britannia Stadium after failing to win a regular starting place at Villa under Gerrard Houllier.
Pulis told BBC Radio Stoke: "No, that's not true. I've not even spoken to Gerrard [Houllier].
"If we were going to do anything it would be through that channel."
Ireland has made just six Premier League starts since joining Villa for £8m from Manchester City in the summer, and has not featured since 6 December.
Pulis admits he is looking to freshen up the squad before the end of the month, but said: "We'll get linked with everyone. They all say we're interested in every Tom, Dick and Harry.
"I'll do the business if it's right and if not, we'll get on with the squad that we've got."
