Glenn Whelan has admitted he would love it if former teammate Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips arrives at Stoke City. Whelan and Wright-Philips were together at Manchester City when they were youngsters but both had left by 2004 and 2005 respectively, with himself going to Sheffield Wednesday and his former teammate heading for Stamford Bridge for ?21million.
Wright-Phillips rejoined City in 2008 for ?8.5million, but has fallen down the pecking order with the arrival of Adam Johnson, James Milner and David Silva and the England international is now looking for a move out of the Etihad Stadium.
Along with the Potters, the 29-year-old has been linked with QPR and Bolton.
And the Republic of Ireland international has revealed that he hopes Tony Pulis can bring the tricky winger to the Britannia and that his former teammate join him in the Midlands, as he knows it would be a top signing, full of class.
Speaking to The Sentinel, the 27-year-old said: "Shaun is a top player and would maybe be in the England side if he was playing a lot more."
You don't go to Chelsea for as much as he did unless you are a good player.
"If he signed for us it would be great - but we'll wait and see who comes in."Ask anyone here and they will tell you the better the players who come in, the better it is for us because we will have to raise our game to stay in the team or get back in."
