The Potters were rewarded for a spirited and committed display when substitute Adam Vickers rolled in a 93rd minute winner.
The visitors put out an experienced side with internationals and first team members in the XI whilst the Potters fielded just three second year scholars and gave a full debut to U16 Michael Clarke and a home debut to 15-year-old ex-Manchester United winger Gomez whilst they were without top scorer Louis Moult, who was travelling with the first team for the FA Cup tie at Chelsea.
After being on the back foot for the majority of the game against their powerful opponents Stoke relied on hitting their opponents on the break and, although David Parton was forced into a couple of top notch saves, including a late penalty save after the keeper had given away the spot kick himself, City snatched all three points when sub Vickers turned his marker before rolling the ball past the keeper from 8 yards in the dying moments.
