Burnley 1-2 Stoke

City picked up another pre-season win but it came at a price as midfielders Glenn Whelan and Rory Delap both picked up injuries.

With Matthew Etherington already missing from the game, played at Huddersfields Galpharm Stadium, the Potters midfield is looking dangerously short going into the first game of the season, in just two weeks time.

It was another City midfielder who created the first opportunity as Lawrence chipped the ball over keeper Brian Jensen only to see the ball cannon off the bar before the winger headed straight at the giant Burnley keeper minutes later.

Begovic had one major piece of work to do during the first half as he dived at the feet of Wade Elliot to deny the hitman with the Potters disjointed following the injuries to Whelan, who went down holding his calf and was carried off, and Delap, who had treatment on his back before limping off.

The second half started with a goal as Tuncay rose highest at the back post to nod past Jensen and break the deadlock before Robert Huth was punished for pulling Chris Iwelumo at a corner, with Graham Alexander converting the resulting spot kick to level the scores.

The scores weren't level for long though as, less than a minute later, Tonge combined with Tuncay before cutting in off the left wing and firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

City continued to look dangerous, Tuncay and Fuller both going close and proving a danger right to the final whistle, whilst Danny Pugh and Michael Tonge kep tthe supply coming from the midfield.
