Ipswich's play-off hopes took a knock as they found a rugged Stoke side impossible to break down.
Town had the majority of the chances and possession but couldn't beat on-loan goalkeeper Mark Crossley, who produced a string of fine saves.
The Suffolk side should have scored on seven minutes when Jermaine Wright put Hermann Hreidarsson in, but he dragged his shot well wide of target.
Crossley was quickly off his line to clear from Darren Bent, before the keeper dived to save from the same player.
The home side appealed for a penalty when the Potters’ keeper dropped a long ball and then appeared to grab Hreidarsson, but referee, Lee Marson was unmoved.
Tommy Miller and Darren Bent fired chances wide for Town, before Miller and Hreidarsson had to go off injured - Stoke having earlier lost striker Lee Mills to injury.
Wright shot over and then Chris Makin shot wide for Town, before Crossley had to back pedal to tip over a Darren Bent cross-cum-shot.
Marcus Bent shot over after a Darren Bent header and in stoppage time Chris Greenacre finally forced a save out of Andy Marshall - the town keeper easily gathering his angled effort.
Ipswich tried to up the pace after the break and went close when a 30 yard Wright screamer flashed narrowly wide.
Thomas Gaardsoe came up from the back to head a Martijn Reuser corner goalwards but Frazer Richardson cleared it off the line.
Marshall saved easily from sub Lewis Neal before Crossley excelled to tip over a goalbound Richard Naylor shot.
The Stoke keeper continued to defy Town, saving a Naylor header, Jim Magilton drive and Marcus Bent header before Reuser curled a free kick inches wide.
Despite the pressure, Stoke held on for a potentially vital point in their survival battle but this result leaves Town with it all to do if they are to achieve a top-six place.
