Robert Huth - 8 - Was a rock at full back and only got beat once, but sacrificed a booking to stop the attack going further
Ryan Shawcross - 8 - Was always in the right place at the right time. Supreme. Defensive display in a cauldron atmosphere
Jonathan Woodgate - 8(Man of the Match) - Fantastic competitive debut for a player out of the game for so long. Showed his true class with an experienced display, knowing exactly where to be and what to do
Marc Wilson - 7 - was solid at the back, which was the main objective for the night, but passing was wayward at times
Jermaine Pennant - 7 - Was subject to some heavy tackling, especially in the first half, which saw him limping about but still charged around and put a shift in before being subbed late on
Dean Whitehead - 8 - Was drafted in for Delap and gave a disciplined performance, tough tackling, full of effort and energy he stopped man Split attacks and forced them backwards with his pressure
Glenn Whelan - 8 - got stuck in and loved the battle. Showed grit and desire to win the ball back time after time and also showed composure to pick the right pass when in possession, good display
Matthew Etherington - 7 - a few early balls into the box but was heavily marked, usually doubled up on, every time he got the ball. not his best Stoke performance but did a good job nonetheless
Jon Walters - 7 - Was kicked around the park and needed treatment more than once. Still stuck to his all action game and gave 100% before being subbed late on as he could barely walk
Kenwyne Jones - 8 - Stuck to his task well, chased down the ball when needed and won his fair share of headers. Denied an early penalty after being pulled to the ground by a defender
Salif Diao - 7 - Subbed on to sit in front of defence and see out the tie and did the job well, timed tackles well and didn't allow the opposition time on the ball to build attacks
Danny Pugh - 6 - Brought on to help see out the game but rarely got the chance to get involved
Ryan Shotton - 7 - came on and pressured the home defence, putting himself about to hurry the Split backline. Heavy pressure led to late own goal
