Player Ratings: Stoke 0-2 Manchester United

Last updated : 26 September 2009 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorenson - 7 - One good save, no chance with either goal. Made himself big for Valencia's early chance

Robert Huth - 7(Man Of The Match) - Solid performance, Nani was shocking and this man was the reason why. One problem was that he drifted into his natural position in the centre a bit and left Lawrence with two men

Danny Collins  - 5 - Looked out of his depth. Struggled to make a decision, never looked comfortable with Valencia and failed to pick out a Stoke shirt all afternoon

Ryan Shawcross - 6 - Disappointing performance. Looked nervy, was dragged around by Rooney and Berbatov, although there will be plenty of defenders who receive that treatment. An off day but first for a while.

Abdoulaye Faye - 6 - Not his finest game in a Stoke shirt. His head dropped and he failed to rally his troops when they went behind and the desire was not there. Left O'Shea free for second goal

Liam Lawrence - 6 - Continued to put effort in until the end, when many had long given up, but deliveries weren't as dangerous as usual, set peices were all easily cleared and general passing was wayward.

Matthew Etherington - 6 - Put the effort in and, in an unfamiliar position up front, had a good game. Ran at players but lack of support hindered his delivery as he often had few, if any, targets to aim for and had to keep the ball and wait for support.

Glenn Whelan - 5 - Sat too deep and allowed Scholes and Fletcher to spread the play and pick their passes at will. Poor distribution and never got up with the pace of the game

Rory Delap - 5 - was a yard off the pace, his distribution wasn't there and the game seemed to bypass him

Dean Whitehead - 5 - At fault for opener as his missed 'tackle', if it can be called that, allowed Fletcher the time and space to pick out the run of Giggs. Struggled to impose himself and, ala Whelan, he sat way too deep

Dave Kitson - 6 - Plenty of effort and roughed up Vidic and Ferdinand all game. Picked up a knock first half but battled on bravely and with support he could have posed more danger

Subs

Tuncay - 5 - Ran around a lot but didn't pose any threat as rest of the team had switched off by then

James Beattie - 5 - Made sure the centre backs knew he was there and roughed them up for final stages but hardly saw the ball and didn't do anything of note

Danny Pugh - 5 - Hardly had a touch with late appearance
