Player Ratings: Stoke 3-2 Sunderland

Last updated : 06 February 2011 By Dan Buxton

Asmir Begovic - 7 - Had no chance with either goal but looked otherwise solid

Andy Wilkinson - 7 - Kept the ball well and was solid again out on the right. Getting forward better these days

Danny Higginbotham - 7 - Solid on the left and plenty of cross field passes to try and get the front two in the game

Ryan Shawcross - 7 - Looked solid in defence as he didn't take any chances and was assured and confident on the ball

Robert Huth - 7 - Looked very dodgy and on edge in defence, dallying on the ball cost the second goal and never really looked settled. However two late goals helped turn the game around and recover his performance

Jermaine Pennant - 8 - Was dangerous throughout and his energy down the right brought about many chances and this was typified late on when his two fantastic free kicks were finished off by Huth to help the Potters to victory

Matthew Etherington - 8 - Worked the full back throughout and repeatedly got up despite being kicked to pieces out on the left. Put in some great crosses

Rory Delap - 7 - Got stuck in and won his share of tackles in midfield. Long throws were fizzed in and caused problems for the visitors, the first goal coming courtesy of one

Dean Whitehead - 8 - Won the free kick for the third goal by being that half a second faster to the ball. Never stopped running and won countless balls in the middle of the park

Kenwyne Jones - 7 - Got up and won a few headers but was outshone by Carew

John Carew - 9(Man of the Match) - Scored the first and as good as scored the second. Gave a fantastic showing of how to play the target man role and also carried the ball well. Won the free kick for the second goal

Jon Walters - 7 - Kept the ball well, pressured well and won a few set pieces as the game drew to a close. Energy was much needed and system change worked a treat
