Asmir Begovic - 7 - Great penalty save and didn't have a chance with the second goal. Possibly should have done better with the opener
Robert Huth - 6 - Still evident that he is not a natural full back. Doesn't turn quick enough but was solid for long periods. Tried to get forward as the game wore on
Danny Collins - 6 - Quiet game as both sides seemed to use the other flank a lot more than DC's. Was solid when needed
Abdoulaye Faye - 5 - Was very ropey as he struggled to get in the game, Hurried when on the ball and shown up for a lack of pace and ability for quick release
Ryan Shawcross - 6 - Sent off late on for two silly tackles but obvious frustration at lack of decisions going his, and Stoke's way, of late.
Jon Walters - 5 - Contributed very little before being subbed off. His place in the side must be up for grabs
Matthew Etherington - 6 - Had a very quiet game by his high standards but Stoke hardly got the ball to him, concentrating on the right wing. Still went close on more than one occasion to opening the scoring
Marc Wilson - 6 - Got caught on the ball quite a few times but looked to spread the play and provide the killer ball needed by Stoke
Dean Whitehead - 6 - Was quieter than usual as the hgih tempo, box to box game he usually provides seemed to desert him on his return to Wearside
Tuncay - 7 - Never stopped running and was a spark in a sub par Stoke display. Could have done with a little more luck as he looked to unlock the door to the Sunderland goal
Kenwyne Jones - 7 - Did nothing for the first hour but after being denied a goal by Cattermole's blatant handball on the line, missed by the ref, and then having another header cleared off the line moments later he really got into the game and was a major menace for the final stages
Ricardo Fuller - 7 - Helped the Potters to step up a gear and worked a tiring defence after coming on. Won a few throw ins and a couple of free kicks with trickery and hard work.
Rory Delap - 6 - Came on and caused trouble with some late throw ins whilst providing fresh legs
