Player Ratings: West Brom 0-1 Stoke City

Last updated : 28 August 2011 By Dan Buxton

Asmir Begovic - 7(Man of the Match) - Made a couple of good early saves that kept the scores level and allowed City to build as the game went on. Confident throughout, as usual. One goal conceded in five games for Bego this season so far!

Robert Huth - 7 - Very solid at the back as he switched from right back to left back after injury to Wilson.

Marc Wilson - 6 - Looked decent before hamstring pull saw him subbed in first half. Did allow Long to dart in front for early chance but Begovic saved the day

Ryan Shawcross - 7 - Recovered from shakey start after having his partner changed once again, very strong second half

Jonathan Woodgate - 7 - Positionally brilliant again. Like Shawcross it seemed to take w hile to settle but once everything clicked into gear looked solid and dependable as ever

Jermaine Pennant - 6 - Game seemed to pass him by for spells but did ahve a few good balls and was full of effort, although he did seem to be half a yard short of pace

Matthew Etherington - 7 - Pacey down the wings and put a few dangerous balls into the box but none came to anything before being withdrawn just after the hour mark

Glenn Whelan - 6 - Looked off the pace as the West brom midfield were half a yard quicker to everything. Dallied on the ball at times, will benefit from a rest, after Ireland duty of course

Dean Whitehead - 6 - Was full of running as ever and never shirked a tackle but wasn't really able to influence the game as much as he would have liked

Jon Walters - 6 - Will be looking forward to a rest after 7 tough games up front already this season. Looked knackered in body and mind but hopefully new recruits will mean Walters and Jones aren't relied on as heavily in future

Kenwyne Jones - 6 - Few good touches, held the ball up well when support was available but never really got in the dangerous areas. Like Walters recent workload seemed to be taking its toll

Andy Wilkinson - 7 - Good committed display after he came on.Was tough in the tackle and took every opportunity to burst forward. One of Thursdays stars who didn't look off the pace

Danny Pugh - 6 - Came on but never really settled into the game. Few balls down the line got City on the front foot

Ryan Shotton - 7 - Came on up front and willingness to chase a seemingly lost cause resulted in the goal. Tapped a ball he had no right to get to past Foster before walking into the empty net for his first Premier League goal
