City and Wolves helped the midday kick off live up to its reputation as an entertainment sapper as the local rivals played out a dull, boring Staffordshire derby at Molineux.
The game started with penalty shouts from the Potters within the opening minute as Whitehead went down in the box, after a tussle with David Jones, but the ref waved away the appeals.
City had plenty of set piece opportunities in the first half as Abdy Faye headed wide three times after being picked out by either Rory Delap's throw ins or Matthew Etherington's corners. He wasn't the only one though as Huth headed a corner wide and Whitehead could only nod an Etherington cross wide from six yards out.
Wolves had limited chances in the first period, and incurred the wrath of their supporters at half time, but David Edwards did force Sorensen into a save when he met a Jones corner strongly.
The second period was more end to end and inside the fort ten minutes both Jarvis and Edwards spooned shots horribly wide whilst Whelan had a shot blocked at the other end before Sidibe wasted a golden opportunity at the back post. The Malian hitman was found unmarked at the back stick but after bringing the ball down he lashed it wildly into the stands.
City went close again a minute later when Kitson won the ball in a congested area and knocked it towards Etherington. The winger was able to slide in and tap the ball home when a great slide from Mancienne put the ball behind for a corner.
City made their first change with twenty minutes left as Kitson was replaced by Tuncay. Within seconds of the substitution they were forced into another when Sidibe pulled his groin and was replaced by Lawrence.
Both sides allowed the game to peter out, not that it got much above that level all afternoon, with Whelan twice blazing over from distance for the Potters and Jones smashing one into the stand at the other end.
